The assisted hatching in IVF is applied when the embryo cannot reach the uterine wall. One of the most common problems in infertility treatments is the inability to achieve pregnancy even though embryo development is achieved by performing fertilization.
More than half of the couples who apply for assisted reproductive techniques do not get pregnant despite the development of the fetus (embryo). Despite fertilization, the source of not getting pregnant is probably at the stage of implantation of this embryo in the uterus: Various events occur after the embryo is placed in the uterus. First, while the cells continue to divide, when they reach a certain size, they tear the membrane (zona pellucida) surrounding them and settle deep in the tissue in the uterus called the endometrium and continue their development here. This is called hatching.
According to experts, the most important reason why pregnancy does not occur is that the embryo cannot break through this membrane and therefore cannot settle on the uterine wall. To solve this problem, a small hole is opened in the membrane surrounding the embryo by chemical or mechanical methods before the transfer process, and the embryo ruptures this membrane and settles on the uterine wall. Scientific studies show that there is a noticeable increase in pregnancy rates with this method.
Does assisted hatching make implantation faster?
It is proved that assisted hatching in IVF method makes implantation faster. By applying this technique, pregnancy rates of around 60 percent are achieved. Assisted hatching technique is applied briefly as follows: First, the embryo is fixed by being sucked from its wall with the help of a microscopic tube, then a hole is drilled at two points by passing through the embryo wall tangentially with a microscopic needle. While the embryo continues to grow in the uterus, it can puncture its membrane at these weak points.
