When is Frozen Embryo Transfer Done After Period

What is Embryo Transfer?

The inability of a woman to become pregnant for 6 months despite having regular sexual intercourse without using any protective method is called "infertility" in medicine. If infertility is detected and if the couple wants to have a baby, the most frequently used assisted reproductive technique, namely IVF treatment, is used to achieve pregnancy with medical intervention. If the in vitro fertilization method is preferred, embryo transfer is one of the stages of treatment.

Details on how the procedure is done, “How is embryo transfer done?” Before discussing it under the title, let's talk about what embryo transfer is:

Embryo transfer, in its most general definition, is the process of placing fertilized eggs, namely embryos, in the uterus of a woman in a laboratory environment.

Frozen Embryo Transfer

A fresh embryo transfer is the placement of the fertilized egg directly into the woman's uterus without any further processing. Today, if for any reason the transfer cannot be performed at the current time, or if it is desired to take precautions for the next transfer in case of failure, it is also possible to freeze healthy embryos and inject them into the uterus at a later date. In this process, called frozen embryo transfer, frozen embryos are prepared by thawing before transfer.

How many embryos will be placed in the uterus at the embryo transfer stage depends on the age of the woman. In women over 35, it is possible to transfer 2 embryos in the first attempt to increase the chance of success.

When is Frozen Embryo Transfer Done?

Whether fresh or frozen embryo transfer will be made, the uterus of the woman should be ready for this transfer process. The age and history of the woman and the quality and number of embryos are the most important factors in determining the time of transfer. Apart from these, many other parameters are taken into consideration.

Fresh embryo transfer is performed after the time required to follow the formation of embryos, as we mentioned before. In other words, the transfer is usually carried out on the 2nd, 3rd or 5th day following the egg collection process.

The time taken for the uterine wall of the expectant mother to reach the desired thickness for the frozen embryo transfer, together with the treatment, is 15-20. corresponds to days.
